Frequently asked questions about typing tests and Typon.
Find practical answers about WPM, accuracy, languages, typing challenges, certification, privacy and using the Typon typing platform.
What is a typing speed test?
A typing speed test measures how quickly you can type displayed text while the system records performance information such as words per minute and accuracy. A good test considers both speed and correctness rather than treating a high speed with many errors as the only goal.
What does WPM mean?
WPM means words per minute. It is a common way of expressing typing speed. The exact calculation can depend on the testing method and the way characters, spaces, errors and elapsed time are handled. Typon displays its calculated result after the test so users can compare sessions using the same service.
Why does accuracy matter when measuring typing speed?
Typing quickly while making many mistakes is usually less useful than typing at a slightly lower speed with reliable accuracy. Accuracy shows how much of the typed text matches the target text according to the test rules. Looking at both WPM and accuracy gives a more useful picture of typing performance.
Can I practise in different languages?
Yes. Typon supports a broad selection of languages. The exact availability can change as language support and passage material are updated. Some languages may also use different writing systems or text-direction behavior, so the typing interface can adapt to the selected language where required.
Can I use backspace while typing?
The normal typing experience can allow backspace according to the selected test settings. Additional settings may also provide controls related to backspace and display behavior. Certification tests can have their own rules, so users should always review the requirements shown for the specific certification session.
What happens when the timer ends?
For a timed test, the session ends when the configured time limit is reached. The service then calculates the result using the rules for that test and presents the available performance information. A certification test can use additional server-side rules and eligibility checks.
Can I change typing settings?
The main typing experience can provide controls for test mode, duration, word targets, language and other preferences. Advanced settings may also allow changes to text and display behavior. The available controls can differ between ordinary practice tests, challenges and certification tests.
Does Typon save my typing results?
The answer depends on the feature and whether an account is being used. Some results may be displayed only for the current session, while account-based features can store information needed to provide history, progress, challenges or certificates. The Privacy Policy explains the categories of information that may be processed.
How do Typon challenges work?
Challenge features are designed to give users additional ways to test their typing. Depending on the challenge type, a session can use a selected topic or involve another participant. Real-time challenge features can exchange the information needed to keep participants synchronized while the match is active.
What is Typon typing certification?
Typon certification is a Typon-managed testing feature that can provide a certificate based on defined performance requirements. The applicable level, minimum performance requirements, test duration, eligibility rules and validity information are shown by the certification system.
Is a Typon certificate an official government or university qualification?
No general accreditation should be assumed. A Typon certificate is a record issued by Typon under the rules of its certification system. Unless an independent institution has separately recognized it, users should not represent it as a government, university or professional-body qualification.
Can I contact Typon about a certificate?
Yes. The Contact Typon page provides a route for certification questions and support requests. If your request concerns a certificate record or a correction, provide enough information for the support team to understand the issue, but avoid sending passwords or other unnecessary sensitive information.
How does Typon handle privacy?
Typon provides a Privacy Policy describing information handling, purposes, retention, sharing, security, cookies and available privacy requests. Users can also control optional cookie categories through the cookie preference interface where it is available.
Can I reject optional cookies?
The cookie preference interface is designed to let users reject optional categories while keeping necessary storage available for core website functions. If optional analytics or marketing technologies are introduced, they should be connected to the appropriate consent category rather than treated as necessary.
How do I report a technical problem?
Use the Contact Typon page and choose the category that best describes the problem. Include the page or feature involved, what you expected to happen, what happened instead and useful non-sensitive details such as the browser or device type. Do not send passwords or payment credentials.
